Boost - Maternal Colostrum Booster for Calves
You have one chance to give your calves a great start
Feeding them enough high-quality colostrum in the hours following birth is critical to their long-term health and performance. But sometimes colostrum on its own can’t deliver the nutrition newborn calves need. Boost is a nutritional supplement that is added directly to colostrum to provide 30 grams of additional globulin protein.

LIFELINE Boost is a colostrum booster that you add directly to colostrum to provide instantly better nutrition for your calves. Use Boost with every newborn calf, or just when you think your colostrum needs some help. Boost provides 30 grams of additional globulin protein that newborn calves need for optimal health and performance.
-
Typical colostrum supplements are mixed with water and fed after the first, time-critical colostrum feeding. Boost is added directly to colostrum and fed to the calf.
-
Simply mix 1/2 pound of Boost with 1 gallon of warm colostrum. Stir until Boost is completely dissolved. Feed the entire mixture to the calf in one feeding via nipple feeder or esophageal feeder as soon as possible following birth. There is no need to warm colostrum if it has just been milked from the cow. If colostrum has been refrigerated or frozen, it should be warmed to 105°F before mixing.
-
No. Mixing is not a problem because Boost is made from a highly concentrated source of globulin protein, which results in a smaller amount of powder that mixes easily into colostrum, and is easy for the calf to eat and digest.
-
Colostrum quality can vary based on a number of factors including age of the cow, breed of the cow, temperature extremes, season of the year, first milking volume and more. Low quality colostrum does not provide the essential nutrition the calf needs in the critical hours following birth. When this is the case, Boost should be added to the colostrum to optimize nutrition for the calf.
-
The nutrients in Boost will benefit your calves even when colostrum quality is good. You can use Boost with every newborn calf, or just when your colostrum needs some help. A simple test with a Brix refractometer or colostrometer will help you determine the action to take. Adding Boost to low-quality colostrum is the most economical approach, however all calves will benefit from the added nutrients in Boost.
-
No. The addition of Boost to colostrum does not increase bacteria counts in colostrum stored either refrigerated or frozen.
-
No. Boost increases the nutrient content of maternal colostrum. However, colostrum contaminated with bacteria should not be fed to newborn calves. In the case of contamination, a colostrum replacer such as LIFELINE Nourish or LIFELINE Rescue should be fed to the calf.
-
Boost has a 36-month shelf life when stored unopened in a cool, dry place at a temperature of 50°-86°F. Once the powder is exposed to air, it has a very short shelf life and should be used within a few days. Once Boost is mixed with maternal colostrum, it should be immediately fed to the calf and never stored.
-
Boost is the only product on the market designed to be added directly to colostrum and fed. This saves time because you do not have to follow up the colostrum feeding with a supplement feeding.
